Guidelines for Wearing a Face Mask
Now, when it comes to wearing a face mask, many people end up just popping them on and thinking that it works out for them. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) specifically shared instructions on the proper and sanitary way to wear your protective face mask.
The following are what you need to do to properly wear a face mask:
Wash Hands Before Putting it On
Make sure to thoroughly wash your hands before you put your face mask on. This is done to avoid getting any germs or pollutants on to your mask. As a protective face mask, it won’t function well if you already get germs on it.
Only Handle the Bands
Once your hands are clean and it is time to wear the mask, make sure you only handle them from the bands, ear loops or ties. Do not pick the mask up from the center. This can cause tears or holes in the mask. Handle it gently and only by the bands on the side.
Making Sure the Mask Fits
After wearing the mask, take a little bit of time to make sure that it fits. You want to press down on the stiff edge (if the mask has one) to make sure that it fits the bridge of your nose. Position the mask on your face properly and make sure that the mask covers your mouth, nose and chin. It should also be comfortable and easy to breathe and talk through it.
Do Not Touch the Mask
Once you have adjusted it properly, do not touch the mask again, especially when you are outside. This has a bigger risk of transferring germs on to your mask. Additionally, do not push your mask down to your chin when you are talking. Always make sure to talk through the mask.
Wash or Discard
If you’re using a reusable mask, you should always wash it after you use it each time. Check for signs of wear and tear and discard it immediately if it starts to look worn out. For disposable masks, you are supposed to get rid of it after each use.
With the help of these tips, you and your loved ones can use a protective face mask without any worries.
